Our Team Found the Power of the Word
Pastor Otto Kelly
Our team started with pastor Otto Kelly. His heart is helping individuals view themselves through God’s eyes and thus discover their uniqueness in Him and His desire for personal relationship with Him.
Otto was born in Detroit, Michigan and at age 11 moved with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada. His father’s death three years later caused him to grope for a father figure, a search that would prove instrumental in his relationship with God.
As a young man, Otto played football for the University of Nevada – Reno, the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars team, as well as the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs before a 1985 injury ended his professional football career.
Otto returned to Reno where he spent 11 years as Washoe County’s Department of Juvenile Services’ first gang specialist/outreach counselor, a role which earned him numerous awards.
In 1998, Otto responded to God’s call and left his job to serve as a full time pastor focusing on family preservation and Biblical manhood. Over the years, Otto has spoken to over 200 churches across America as well as a five nation tour of Africa where he proclaimed God’s love to over 25,000 men.
Since 2012, Otto has been the Executive Director of Reno’s Crisis Pregnancy Center. Thanks to a greatly increased number of community organizations supporting their work, the Center has steadily expanded its days and hours of operation each year. They now provide a range of family support services to over 1,800 people in 2014. Their team of volunteers and people being served all come from diverse backgrounds.
Otto actively serves on several boards including the African-American Clergy Council of Northern Nevada, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Northern Nevada, the Role Model Summit, The Children’s Cabinet (Reno) Executive Steering Committee and Reno’s Christian Men’s Alliance among many others.
Today Otto lives in Nevada with Joy – his high school sweetheart and wife of over 26 years – and their two wonderful sons, Alonzo and Dominic.
Charles White’s sole desire is to help others experience God’s love and understand that they are each uniquely created with an opportunity to enjoy a loving, healthy relationship with God – no matter their circumstances. That’s why he joined Pastor Otto’s team.
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Charles grew up in church. As a high school senior, his youth pastor asked Charles to help her develop their church’s Junior High youth ministry program. Because of that opportunity and the people who encouraged and challenged him, Charles discovered a deep love for youth ministry and has been involved with church and community youth programs on a nearly continuous basis ever since.
During graduate school in Rochester, New York, Charles met his future wife Anne. Together they challenged each other’s theological beliefs and as a result began an amazing, shared journey of spiritual growth.
The majority of Charles’ professional career has been in the printing and publishing industry, where he focused on creating marketing materials and campaigns for a wide range of clients.
Charles currently serves as a Youth Leader at First United Methodist Church in downtown Reno. He is also a business development specialist for a national web presence development agency headquartered in Reno, Nevada.
Now married for over 20 years, Charles and Anne live in Reno, Nevada where they are involved in a variety of community organizations. They also enjoy adopting senior dogs – with a preference for those with special needs.
